Vocational colleges are the important part of higher education, the aim of thevocational college is to train applied talents with certain knowledge and practicalability. However, the professional development of teachers can affect the teachingquality directly in them. Arousing teachers’ self-consciousness is the most important toimprove the teacher development. Since1980s, the education started to discussteacher’s professional development, but there is less discussion about the Englishteachers’ self-development in the vocational colleges’. Therefore, we have manyworthwhile questions to discuss, such as the theoretical basis, the way to the solutionand how to do empirical research etc..The paper begins with the literature and include four parts. First of all, this papermake the analysis of the professional development of teachers and their self-development. At the same time, the paper analyzed the questions in degree level and thefeeling of job burnout. After the analysis, this paper puts forward some countermeasures.This paper applies methods of questionnaire survey, visitation and class observation. Inview of the teachers’ self-development in vocational colleges, the paper puts forwardsome suggestions to improve.
