The teacher’s life-world, which is the reality and is beyond the reality of the world, is field of the teacher’s amateur life and teaching life. The teacher’s life-world is the foundation of the teacher’s professional development. Teacher is not only as a role, but also as the holistic people. The teachers are interacting with, understand and accept the other to do self-confirmation and reciprocity in the life-world. The teachers constantly is going on the meaning of construction, the value of endowment and the state of promotion in the positive wealth of practical activities. The teacher’s life-world has the characteristics of purpose, integrity, initiative, inter-subjectivity and humanism from the perspective of teacher’s living in the world. This study examined and reflected the status of the teacher’s professional development through searching and organizing literatures and theoretical analysis from the perspective of teacher’s life-world. We found that the teacher’s life-world suffered from the intrusion of the technical rationality and the instrumental rationality. The colonization of the teacher’s life-world is increasingly evident. The teacher’s professional development has been arrogated by the scientism and has been deminated by the instrumental rationality, which is reflected the follows:we often only focus on the relational value of teachers and ignore their self-sufficiency value; are concerned about the teacher’s professional lives and ignore their amateur lives in real life of teaching. The teacher’s professional development is focus on the external development, ignore the teachers’ professional autonomy and consciousness of professional autonomy; lack of culture of cooperation and the orientation of scientism. All of these are resulted in the problems of instrumentalism, mask, passively development, individualism, technicality in teacher’s professional development. This is not only confined to the space of teacher’s professional development, but also limited the height and breadth of the realm of the teacher’s life. This study propose the teacher’s professional development of "holistic" orientation in accordance with the basic characteristics of the teacher’s life-world, the concept of "teacher as person" as well as the lack of discourse about holistic teacher to attempt to overcome the evils of scientism. In the view of the "holistic" orientation, teacher’s professional development is the procession that teacher expands his or her visions and pursues the self-value realization, is beyond the boundaries and the barriers of the teaching profession to reach the fission of horizons and efforts to develop teaching profession, but be not tied to the meant of teaching profession. It has the following characteristics:Firstly, it regarded teachers and teacher’s professional development as the unity of autotelicity and instrumentalism in the view of value choices. Secondly, the field of development not only existed in the working world, but also in the life-world. Thirdly, it has the consciousness which is mainly life consciousness, personality consciousness and spiritual consciousness in developing idea terms. Fourthly, it has coherence included in coherence of time, coherence of space, coherence of ways as well as they are interconnected with each other in the course of development. Fifthly, in the professional quality, it has characteristics of level, dynamic, integrity, scalability and development. We hold that it need make the delimitation of the legitimacy to reconstructing teacher’ s professional development from the perspective of "holisticity", to wit, the unity of autotelicity and instrumentalism, the integration of the "role" and "identity", the interactivity of externalization with internalization, inter-subjectivity, reciprocity and unified technical and humanities.
