The teaching of Chinese language knowledge has been debated in Chinese languageteaching world for long. Language knowledge teaching has been beset with even morecontradictions in the context of new curriculum reform. Opinions differ on how muchattention should be paid to the language knowledge teaching. There is growing concern aboutthe teaching of ancient poetry and prose in Senior High school. On one hand, the students getfed up with the ancient poetry and prose, and the teachers are tired of teaching ancient poetry;on the other, due to the rise of the traditional Chinese culture, the number of writings inclassical Chinese has been increased into the curriculum, which calls for high teachingefficiency of them. As a ten years’ teacher in senior high, the author has frequently reflectedon her own teaching. What is the significance of the knowledge teaching of ancient poetryand prose in modern times? What should be taught about the ancient poetry and prose? Howto teach it? It’s of great necessity to make a research on it.This thesis will focus on the knowledge teaching of ancient poetry and prose in SeniorHigh and explore its content and strategies with five chapters. The thesis will also sum up thestrategies of teaching all kinds of ancient poetry and prose knowledge on the basis of theSenior High compulsory Chinese textbooks (People’s Education Press,2006edition) and theauthor’s previous teaching experience.The introduction part explains why the author puts forward the question. It reviews someprevious research achievements, points out the significance of this study, and introduces theresearch methods of this thesis. It also defines the basic Chinese language knowledge and theknowledge of ancient poetry and prose.The first chapter explains the basis of studying the knowledge teaching of ancient poetryand prose in Senior High. The author will base the study on three aspects: the implication ofknowledge classification theory on knowledge teaching of ancient poetry and prose, the aimsand demands of “language curriculum standards” about the teaching of ancient poetry andprose in full-time senior high, and the ancient poetry and prose in the PEP Senior Highcompulsory textbooks.The second chapter mainly focuses on the teaching research of language knowledge of ancient poetry and prose in senior high. The author gets sorted out the content arrangement oflinguistic knowledge of ancient poetry and prose in PEP textbooks (Compulsory1-5) in theform of table. The author makes some comments on the content and the arrangement and thusputs forward three strategies of teaching senior high ancient poetry and prose knowledge,namely, analyzing the context to understand words, explaining the word meaning throughgrammatical structure, inferring the word meaning wit former experience.The third chapter mainly studies the teaching of discourse knowledge of ancient poetryand prose. The author also gets sorted out the content arrangement of discourse knowledge ofancient poetry and prose in PEP textbooks (Compulsory1-5) in the form of table. The authormakes some comments on the content and the arrangement and thus puts forward threestrategies of teaching discourse knowledge of senior high ancient poetry and prose, i.e.,settling problems or introducing the unit content, catching the stylistic characteristics tounderstand the structure, getting the main idea through the interpreting of the segments.The fourth chapter primarily does research on teaching literary knowledge of ancientpoetry and prose in senior high. The author also gets sorted out the content arrangement ofliterary knowledge of ancient poetry and prose in PEP textbooks (Compulsory1-5) in theform of table. The author makes some comments on the content and the arrangement and thusputs forward three strategies of teaching literary knowledge of senior high ancient poetry andprose, namely, using both the past and new knowledge to know about the relevant writers andtheir works, introducing the unit content and teaching different stylistic texts to help thestudents learn the stylistic knowledge, comprehending the idioms and famous old saying byvirtue of the language usage in real life.The fifth chapter will evaluate and analyze the teaching of Bells Ringing in the Rain andOn Encouraging Learning through the research findings in the first four chapters.The last part is the conclusion which points out the deficiency of the study and putsforward some teaching suggestions about the knowledge teaching of ancient poetry and prosein senior high.
