In this paper, I will study the teaching strategies used in the process of teaching grammar to foreign students in the middle schools and elementary schools of Beijing.According to the study results of teaching strategies, I decided to choose the Direct Instruction and Indirect Instruction as the study objects and gave my own definitions of these two strategies.Based on the PPT Teaching Methods, I divided the grammar teaching activities into three parts: Presentation, Practice and Production. Then I studied the usage of these two strategies in these three parts, analyzing the merit and limitations.At last, I summarized the merit and limitations of the teaching strategies and grammar teaching on the whole and then gave my own suggestion on the grammar teaching.There are five chapters in my paper.The first chapter is the introduction of my paper, including the reason I choose this topic, the object of my study and the literature review. In the last part, I gave my own definition of the ways of Direct Instruction and Indirect Instruction used in the Presentation, Practice and Production. The second chapter is about the research approach. The first part is the object of my study, the second part is the meaning and purpose of my study, the third part is the methods used in my study.The third chapter is concerning the results of my study about the ways that Direct Instruction and Indirect Instruction are used in Presentation, Practice and Production.The merit and limitations are shown in my paper.There are three parts in the fourth chapter. The first one is tendency in choosing teaching strategies in the grammar teaching and the merit and limitations of the usages of teaching strategise on the whole. The second part is the merit and limitations of grammar teaching on the whole.The third part is the suggestion on the usage of teaching strategies and grammar teaching.The last chapter is the ending of my paper, including my acquisition from the paper-writing and the limitation of my study.The conclusion of my study is that teachers prefer to use Indirect Instruction in the grammar teaching activities.
