Secondary vocational education aims to cultivate skilled talents in the filed of production, construction and service adapting to the demands of the society. Vocational skills competition focuses on examining the level of students’ vocational skills, which has the same target with the nurturing goals of secondary vocational education. Vocational skills competition, which has been an important activity in secondary vocational education, has attracted widespread attention since from the National Vocational Skills Competition for students in2008. Then vocational skills competition was held one by one in the nationwide. The situation of layers of selection formed gradually. Teachers pay more attention to the cultivation of students’ professional skills, the enthusiasm of the students to learning skills rising, secondary vocational schools’recognition increased, and the degree of school-enterprise cooperation strengthened. However, there is also criticism of the vocational skills competition such as it has been part of the teachers’ and students’ patent, increasing the economic burden of schools, arising utilitarian tendency and so on.Based on the provincial level and above and municipal vocational skills competition, analyze the policies, regulations and vocational skills competition notice related to vocational skills competition from the country, provinces and cities. It found that vocational skills competition policies are consistent from top to bottom in the purpose, content and reward ratio, but its difference between the time and the prizes of the competition. Secondary vocational schools are the key participants of vocational skills competition. Researcher self-designed teachers and students’questionnaire. The investigation shows that the vocational skills competition has influence including positive and negative on ecological environment, ecological capacity, ecological structure and ecological function of secondary vocational education. Deficiencies of system itself, vocational skills competition policy implementing inadequate, incorrect position and utilitarian tendency of some education administrators, leaders, and teachers are the reasons that point to the negative impacts on vocational education skill competition. In order to improve the vocational skills competition and promote sustainable development of the ecology of secondary vocational education, it is available of establishing ecological concept on sustainable development of vocational skills competition, creating ecological environment for vocational skills competition, optimizing the ecological structure of secondary vocational education.
