In recent years, as the rural society and economy develops, every aspect in ruralareas has changed sharply, and the idea and concept of “post-80s”, which make up themajority of rural population, are becoming open and diversification. Thus, their lifestatus especially their matrimony needs much more attention and an attentive study. Therural “post-80s” youth’s problems in matrimony, such as difficulty in selecting a mate,cohabitation without legal marriage, high divorce rate, are still hard to solve, and somerural families can’t stand the financial worries about marriage, which draws ourattention accordingly. This paper is from a theoretical viewpoint of social work, andtakes a combinative research approach of quality and quantity. It takes Daji village inDaji street of Caidian district as a study case, and gives a description of the problemsthat appears in marriage among rural “post-80s” youth and their reasons, and finally, itinvestigate the new approaches of social work to the marital problems of rural youth.By field work and interviews, this paper firstly studies the main marital problems ofthe rural “post-80s” youth from Daji village and their results, which can be summed upas follows, first, difficulty in selecting a mate, second, high costs at marriage, third,instability in marital relationship. These prominent issues have a significant impact onindividual, family and society. Secondly, through empirical research this paper indicatesthat various factors existing in economic, cultural and social dimensions make themarital status of rural youth fall into difficulties. Finally, from the special viewpoint ofsocial work this paper proposes three tactics, structural family treatment, group workingmethod and community working method, which are to give an assistance to the rural“post-80s” youth in building a happy marital relationship by making use of positivefactors from individual, family and society.
