Modern volleyball develops rapidly. The height, strength and speed in the offencebecome more and more challenging, pushing the offence into a higher level, which rendersdifficulty for defense, especially for the defense of catching and spiking. This articleregards the defense as a system which is composed of two subsystems: blocking andbackline defense. At the meanwhile, the space-time dissipative structure theory is applied toresearch and analyze this systematic and efficient organization. The literature material law, logic analysis method, video observation, technical statistics, mathematic statistics, software simulation and other methods are comprehensively applied to the analysis, reaching to the theoretical framework and characteristics of the space-time dissipativestructure theory using in the defense of volleyball while the construction of the former andlater space-time structure and the main space-time factor are also included. The analysisshows the relation of four levels in the space-time coordination in the catching and blocking, and the entropy that governs the development of the catching and blocking defense system. The author takes the small forward as an example to discover the efficient ways to defendand finally concludes the manifestation of the space-time dissipative structure in thevolleyball defense and puts forward relevant suggestions.Following are the results:1The space-time dissipation structure of the volleyball refers to the series ofcomplementary and cooperating acts that are taken by the defense and offense playerscapable of self-organizing according to the time of the match in time and space dimension.2The theoretical frame of space-time dissipation structure in the defense of thevolleyball is initially formed based on the knowledge of view of time and space as well asthe theory of structure dissipation; in the meanwhile, the characteristics of defense andoffense in volleyball match and the logical analysis methods like induction and analogy areconsidered in this process. The defense in the volleyball match is regarded as a systemwhich consists of two subsystems-the block players and non-block players. Twosubsystems are formed by front space structure and back space structure, both of which willdecide the final goal of the development if the system and all the factors in two subsystemsare capable of organic competition and self-organizing. The whole frame is connected, openand has many levels thus having dynamic and various features while the orders are kept well during functioning.3The entropy of the volleyball defense strategy is an irreversible process. Theorganization and application of volleyball defense system, the seizing of the defensiveopportunity and the techniques in the defense are processing in a relatively closed andself-organized environment. There always the decrease in efficient energy and the increasein inefficient energy during the match, which grantees the defense drops down slowly. Before the opponent attract, the system is unbalanced.Though the players are in the defensesystem (in their position), the players have no plan in defense before the attack, whichenable the increase of the entropy. This is one of the reasons why the system keepsunbalanced. When the opponent begin the attack, as the negative entropy is inputted in outof the system, the defense system starts the analysis of the attack while all the factors formsan efficient self-organization and develops to the same goal. And the entropy in the systemdecreases, balancing the system, which produces efficient defense and the system is morebalanced.6Therefore, the efficient self-organization of the factors in the system determinesthe amount of the entropy and how the match goes.4Besides the regular double or triple net blocking defense against the fast attack fromthe No.3position, the single player defense can be tried according to the time-spacedissipation structure theory. The number of defense player in the back can be increased tonarrow the distance of non-net-blocking players relatively, getting the advantage of spaceand the change and the complimentary of front and back space are achieved, which maybeincrease the chance of winning.5In order to have more efficient defense, the net-blocking players should accuratelyreact to the coming ball and keep fast. The defense skills should be fully mastered and theyneed to be continuous in defense, stay longer and to put down the attack. When the attack isfast and near, non-net-blocking player must predict where the ball will hit the ground beforeit comes. They need to not only move to the right defensive position when the informationfrom the net-blocking players arrives but understand the purpose of the attack. Only in thisway do they come to the efficient self-organization with the front space structure.6As for the attack from the position No.3, the defense should use the strategy of singleor double players net-blocking. On one hand, the organization speed of the net-blockingwill be increased, ensuring the efficient net-blocking; on the other hand, even the attack penetrates through the defense, the net-blocking players and the non-net-blocking playersstill keeps the defensive space smaller than that of three net-blocking players take. Thechange and unity of front and back space structure are kept in this way and the system willbe more stable.7The space-time dissipation structure in volleyball defense is expressed in this way:the same defensive position, but the shorter moving time; narrowing the defense space, butincreasing the defensive efficiency; blocking and defensing in whole; the change and unityof the front and back space and time.8In the training, the net-blocking and non-net-blocking should be considered as aunity. And the design of the net-blocking strategy should pay attention to the application ofthe defensive strategy of the non-net-blocking players. Both need to be coordinated.9The defensive training needs to stress on the factors sharing the space characteristics, like the player’s speed increasing with the ability of predicting the attack, taking differentnet-blocking strategy and back position and cooperation with front players according todifferent players, and doing moving training in different match environment.10The defense is the foundation of the offense. While the defense is noticed, theefficient link and change from defense to offence should be considered as well...
