Analysis On Current Situation And Space Of Social Work Intervention In Grassroots Non-profit Organizations

Since the start of ‘reform and openness’, along with the deepening of economic andpolitical system transformation, China’s non-profit organizations especially the grassrootsones have undergone a rapid growth. After years of exploration, development as well astransition, the present non-profit organizations have made great contributions in variousareas and different degrees to making up for deficiencies which exist in the public servicesprovided by government and market. As a professional helping activity with long-perioddevelopment and improvement, social work has become the main providing means ofsocial welfare service and obtained wide acceptance. Professional social work originatedfrom volunteer service. Through development and transformation of many stages,nowadays social work and volunteer service coexist in various activities of grassrootsnon-profit organizations and they are perceived as important way to jointly promote theservice of non-profit institutions. But compared with volunteer service, professional socialwork shares a higher similarity with non-profit organizations, because of the similar aims,objectives, service areas and contents of these two parties. Furthermore, huge specialtystrengths of social work stand out (including unique professional values, scientific andsystematic methods, and skills to help people, etc.), which makes it more adaptable to theneeds of non-profit organizations growth. Therefore, to a certain extent, the effectivecombination of both sides can better promote their mutual development.Based on the specific survey of Yunnan X organization which plays a role in Hproject, this dissertation which proceeds from the viewpoint of differences and interactionbetween social work and volunteer service in regard to providing assistance aims toinvestigate the current situation of social work intervention in the grassroots non-profitorganizations, and excavate the potential space where social work can be further involvedand applied in the growth of non-profit organizations. Meanwhile, the writer also makes adiscussion on the difficulty faced by further social-work intervention and its influencefactors. Moreover, related suggestions are proposed to explore the win-win strategybetween grassroots non-profit organizations and social work.Through the empirical investigation of Yunnan X organization and the execution of H project the following conclusions can be drawn: at this stage of there has already existed acertain degree of social work intervention in the grassroots non-profit organizations, butthe degree of involvement is relatively limited. At the same time the further intervention ofsocial work encounters many difficulties, these difficulties largely derived from theunderdevelopment of the social work and the grassroots non-profit organizations in ourcountry.
