Montessori Method is one of the relatively advanced, scientific and perfectpre-school education means in Europe and America. Through overall and deep documentconsulting, it is found that there are a number of useful explorations on Montessorimethod our education theoretical field. But these researches are generally restricted to theintroduction or evaluation of Montessori method. And the study on the concrete practice ofMontessori method in China has not been paid much attention. Comparing withmathematics education and sensorial education, Montessori’s thoughts on children’slanguage education has been ignored, especially children English teaching.For these reasons, this paper first introduces the basic characteristics of Montessorimethod and definitions of some relevant concepts and reviews the development history ofMontessori method in China. Then this paper elaborates the research and practicesituations of Montessori method at home and abroad. Afterwards, this paper takes the Fkindergarten in Shijiazhuang as the case study to focus on the application of Montessorimethod in children English teaching. This paper uses the methods of interview,observation and text analysis to collect materials. Two interview outlines are preparedseparately for teachers and the kindergarten leader. Nine English teachers are selected.Interview form is divided into formal interview and informal interview. There are sixtyclass observations in the study. Summary sheets are used to record the teachingprocesses. By observing the application of Montessori method in F kindergarten, theeducation characteristics and some problems in the process of implementing Montessorimethod are found, some feasible suggestions are given for children English teaching underthe guidance of Montessori method and the Study and Development Guidance forChildren aged3-6years and new ideas are shared for non-Montessori kindergarten’ sEnglish teaching.It is found that F kindergarten followed the idea of Montessori education, focused onthe creation of environment and the combination of Montessori English course and othercourses in the process of applying Montessori method. But there are still some problems.Children are lack of subjectivities; teachers regard the Montessori method just as the operation of realia without penetrating the spirit of freedom and independent development;teacher cannot play the role of "tutor", on the contrary, there is improper interference; theoperations of didactic materials depend on classical Montessori ones inordinately, butlocal self-made materials with local features are rare; the approaches of activities are notflexible.This paper suggested that it is necessary to treat Montessori method scientifically andfully embody the spirit of free and independent development of children which Montessorieducation advocates; lay emphasis on the improvement of Montessori teachers; developand design didactic materials according to the era and Chinese characteristics; fullyconsider children’s needs for development in creating environment; pay attention to orderand courses sequences in "prepared environment" and the perfection of MontessoriEnglish course.
