China has proposed the concept of quality education for20years, and the conceptis also gradually accepted by most educators and students. But the practice of qualityeducation is far away from the theoretical description in primary and secondary schools, and what some schools has done is even opposite to the mainstream educationalphilosophy advocated by our state. Measures under the policy have been common formany years, since quality education has been promoted. Now, the atmosphere ofexamination-oriented education has gone another areas of education-after-schooltutoring.In recent years, after-school tutoring rises in the education sector rapidly withirresistible force and attracts a lot of attention, most of which is for primary andsecondary students. The author surveied and gave some interviews to the primary andsecondary school students in her own school from the angle of the quality education, draw the following conclusions:1、Tutoring affects the overall development of students. From counseling coursesanalysis, the ratio of receiving test subjects tutoring is significantly higher than that ofnon-examination subjects, even specialty learning is combined with selection functionof education closely.Tutoring still continues the examination-oriented educationtradition of stressing intellectual、examination subjects and written knowledge ignoringmoral education、 non-examination subjects and practical ability, finally affects theoverall development of students.2、Tutoring affects the students’ comprehensive ability and innovative spiritcultivation. The survey results show that the main way of teaching in remedial classes isthat the teachers speak more; the content of teaching is related to examination, furthereducation and textbooks; and repeats school knowledge. Guidance teachers eager toteach test-taking skills, students judge the good or bad of tutoring institution bygaining how many test-taking skills to improve their test scores, students achievementmay be improved in a short time, but it is not good for the cultivation of innovativespirit and the improvement of overall quality in the long run.3、Tutoring increases students academic burden. Through surveys and interviews found that79.1percent of primary and middle school students are participating in someform of tutoring, regardless of academic performance; The strength of primary andmiddle school students receiving after-school tutoring is gerat, almost all of themoutside school hours have been occupied by tutoring; the average time of more thanhalf of the students participating in after-school tutoring is6-10hours;77.9%of thestudents participate in two or more after-school tutoring classes. It is opposite to the"reducing burden" slogan promoted by quality education.4、Tutoring affects the physical and mental health of students. The survey resultsand interviews found that many students are passive to remedial classes, they entercounseling classes becase of their parents’ wishes, lacking of a learning initiative. Andhigh-intensity tutoring occupies their too much spare time, and they lack ofcommunication with their parents and companions, many students have a seriousshortage of sleep time, these have a serious impact on the physical and mental health ofprimary and secondary students.5、Tutoring affects the principal that education should face to all students. Thequality education is a public education which means everyone shares education, making all students have the opportunity to receive an equal education. Tutoring itselfis a form of private education, you pay then you can get it,thus the family economicconditions would affect the opportunity of students to participate in this activity;students receive different counseling due to different pay, one-on-one counseling andlarge classes should have different effect, which is opposite to the principal thateducation should face to all students. Finally, based on the above analysis the author proposes improvements to theeducation authorities, schools, governments, parents and tutoring agencies which areclosely related to education, hoping after-school tutoring can play a more positive rolein the way of implementation of quality education.
