With an increasing awareness of fitness and an extensive national promotion of the sportof table tennis in recent years, the development of this sport in Changsha has been swift.Learning table tennis has become a fanatical wave of interest. The number of table tennis clubis also showing a rising trend, the club instructors are gradually increasing, the number of tabletennis instructor with an unbalanced coaching level. The ability of table tennis coaches, hasundoubtedly, been an important influence on trainees’ improvement and enthusiasm in theprocess of learning.Observing Changsha City’s table tennis coaches, players, and club operators I haveaccumulated research illustrating the basic situation of Changsha table tennis ability. Combinedwith research methods such as: documenting collected materials, questionnaire surveys, mathematic statistical analysis, logical analysis, and expert interviews; just to name a few, thepurpose is to promote the development of amateur table tennis in Changsha City, enhancing theclub table tennis instructors coaching ability, and providing reference for table tennis market. Ihave deducted the following conclusions.1. Currently, coaches in Changsha are young and enthusiastic with high education levels. Thenumber of male coaches is larger than that of female coaches, and the skills of the male playersare also stronger than those of the female players. But the female coaches are much morepopular than the male coaches resulting in an excess demand for female coaches. The needsexceed the supply.2. The table tennis club instructors general lack of employment training of Changsha city, leading to a poor coaching ability of some table tennis instructors, with an unbalanced coachinglevel.3. In the guideline of coaching abilities, the amateur coaches are high between harmoniousinterpersonal relationships and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, however, with a low technical level of table tennis. They have a less affluent knowledge of theories, needed to further strengthen the professional skills and knowledge.4. Students from sports colleges have experiences in learning under tertiary education, and theycan proficiently get a hold of table tennis skills and theoretical knowledge. On the whole thisreflects that coaching capabilities that satisfy the requirements of club managements and sportparticipants. However, the creativeness and the capability of intra-personal collaboration of these students are not satisfactory.5. For retired athletes, their training ability, capability of intra-personal collaboration, andsporting skills are exceptional. Retired players should be considered as role models for learningby students of sports colleges and amateurs. Retired players, however, are less satisfactory inindividualized teachings and further self-proficiencies, and need to strengthen their self-studiesas a step towards perfection also.
