Analysis And Define Concepts Of Outdoor Activities And Other Associated Terminology

During the process of studying outdoor activities, the first question to be solved is toclarify the definition. If definition is not clear and unified, things or phenomenon will bemixed. The substance of science will not be found, and there will be no scientific rule to directpractice. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the definition and related concepts of outdooractivities. While the substance and connotation of outdoor activities will be searched.First it is about the background of this study, and the problems in studying and usingconcepts of outdoor activities. On this basis, the origin and development of outdoor activitiesis discussed. According to the study, the development of outdoor activities has three trends:outdoor sports, outdoor recreation, and outdoor education.Therefore, the related concepts of outdoor activities will be discussed from the aspects ofthe three trends. The concept system of outdoor sports is divided into three types:"LiteralInterpretation oriented”,“Adventure oriented” and “Nature oriented”. Introduction andcomment about the system are made, while an analysis about typical concepts is made.Clarification of the concepts in the area of recreation is made, including outdoor recreation,outdoor pursuits, outdoor adventure recreation, wilderness recreation, forest recreation andriver recreation. The concepts in the area of education, including outdoor education, adventureeducation and outdoor adventure education, are analyzed.At last, according to the previous studies of the concepts of outdoor activities, from theaspects of superordinate concepts, activity area and the relationship with environment, arelatively clarified and comprehensive concept of outdoor activities is proposed.
