Spatial ability is closely related to people's daily life.It is one of the three basic abilities that human beings should possess.The spatiality of Geography is the most notable feature that distinguishes from other subjects,which determines its superiority in the development of students' spatial ability.The cultivation of the geographical spatial capability is helpful to students' ability in space,image thinking,and the ability to collect and deal with information.However,at present,Senior Geography Curriculum Standards do not make a definite provision for the cultivation of the ability in space of Geography,which often being ignored in geographical teaching,especially the ability of spatial perception,the ability of spatial imagination of Geography and so on.At the same time,modern technology,especially geographic information technology,bringing great convenience to our life and learning.The new Geography Curriculum Standards also emphasize the application of modern information technology to geography teaching.Information software such as Google Earth that with better intuitionistic also brings great help to break through the explanation of key and difficult knowledge,improve teaching efficiency,and to create a teaching situation and so on.However,the training of geographical space ability always being neglected,the importance and application of information technology such as GE to geography teaching and spatial ability training in high school are low.How to make GE better used to geography teaching and training of students' geographical spatial ability,being a problem that modern geography teachers need to think and practice.In this paper,the basic knowledge of geospatial ability theory and the basicfunctions of GE are briefly introduced through literature research and induction.Secondly,a questionnaire survey and interview were conducted on students and teachers from the first and second grades in the first middle school of Li Cheng in Shanxi Province.Through the data analysis,knowing the current status of GE for the cultivation of students' geographical space ability in the key middle schools that in the Ordinary county area represented by the first middle school of Li Cheng.As teachers and students have low awareness and use of GE,teachers ignore the important role of GE in the training of students' geographical space ability,and lack skills of GE to assist geography teaching and cultivate students' geographical space ability,which leads to the less actual contact and use of GE for teachers and students,so that the learning and training of geographical space ability is difficult.They need to learn GE to assist the development of geographical learning and geospatial ability.The article furtherly analyzes the reasons and strategies for the cultivation of high school students' geospatial ability based on GE from three aspects: students,teachers and schools.Students should strengthen the attention and application of geographical space ability and GE assisted learning from thought and practice,and take GE as the carrier of learning,constantly excavate its function,help the perfection of cognitive process.Teachers should have a strong sense and practice of GE being applied to geography teaching,and choose the content suitable for the teaching of GE.The combination of teaching methods can effectively improve students' geospatial ability.Schools should create good network teaching environment and after-school learning environment.Based on the application strategy of GE teaching,combining the functions of GE and geography teaching,two specific teaching cases are designed through case analysis.Case 1 "morning and evening line" teaching,to show GE how to break through the difficulty of teaching in the way of new lessons;Case 2 "urban functional division",to explore the activities of GE that create a learning situation,students begin to practice under the guidance of teachers.Finally,through the questionnaire survey,two senior classes were selected to carry out a questionnaire test.The results of the case study were analyzed,it proved that GE do play an important role in the training of the students' geographical spatial ability,especially the geographical spatial perception ability,the geographical space imagination ability and the geographical spatial positioning ability.Teachers should lecture on space knowledge with proper instructional design,and use GE to improve the students' geographical space ability in teaching consciously,which makes a good progress on students' geographical space ability.Therefore,both teachers and students should fully excavate the space expansion function of GE,so that it is not only a good helper for teaching and learning,but also to make it play a greater role in students' real life.
