Since2001, a new round of reform for the compulsory education in mathematics curriculum started in our country. Reviewing the history of mathematics curriculum reform in the past more than10years, we should ask:how has the teaching quality been since the implementation of the new mathematics curriculum? What are the important changes in teaching? What problems are still there? These are the academic questions to answer. Based on this background, this investigation is focused on the northwest rural area which is lagging behind the development at economic and education, studied the situation on the teaching quality since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics in the region, in order to provide reference and support for the curriculum reform of basic education in northwest from the policy decision aspect.This paper uses the methods of literature, summarizes the elementary education teaching quality since the curriculum reform domestic and overseas, a solid theory is founded. In addition In addition to this, through questionnaire investigation and interviews, we investigated among some rural middle school mathematics teachers, students, the leadership of the schools in Gansu Province, Ningxia, Xinjiang areas, the research objects mainly covered the teaching quality from the teachers’and students’point of view since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics in rural areas. We also analyze the impact factors of new curriculum on teaching quality comprehensively, and put forward some suggestions to improve the quality of teaching in the new curriculum.This research mainly focuses on a few core issues:in the teaching aspect, mainly from questions like "how about the teaching philosophy since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics"," how about teachers’professional knowledge, professional growth and the relationship between teachers and students since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics " to" how about teachers’teaching skills and teaching ability since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics " and " how about teacher’s teaching burden since the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics " to investigate. In the aspect of students, mainly from the "junior high school students’interest in learning, learning motivation, thinking ability, learning burden, study pressure" to "students ’understanding of the new curriculum","the level of parents’attention on students’ mathematics learning ","parents and teacher’s evaluation on students ","classroom atmosphere","teacher-student relationship" and so on.The results show that:since the implementation of the new curriculum in rural areas, the education quality of teaching has undergone great changes, and achieved certain positive results. But overall, there are still showing quite a number of problems since the implement at of the new curriculum in the teaching quality of rural areas, such as"junior high school teaching facilities construction is still lagging behind","teachers rarely make use of modern teaching equipments","teachers are not perfect","teachers’professional knowledge needs to be improved","teaching evaluation method is monotonous.","although the cooperation and communication ability, operating ability and problem solving ability are enhanced, the students’operation ability drops quite a bit" etc.. The existence of these problems seriously affected the quality of teaching and the effect of the implementation of the new curriculum of junior middle school mathematics.Finally, in view of the present situation of teaching quality in rural junior high school, this study proposed7suggestions:(1) to guarantee the construction of the elementary school teaching facilities, implement national policies;(2) strengthen teacher training project, strengthen the construction of teachers team;(3) strengthen the study of teaching theory and teaching goal;(4) improve the basis of professional knowledge, enhance the study of mathematics;(5) constructing mathematical quality guarantee system, broaden the evaluation method of teaching quality;(6) increase the students’development of education;(7) improve the understanding of curriculum reform in the local government.
