Professional development of teachers has been a hot topic since it entered the field ofeducational research in China, and reached rich achievements in teacher s’ skills, literacy,development models, development stages, and specific strategies. However, in reality, teachers as themasters of their own development remain in a passive state.This paper tries to explore teachers’ professional development through the perspective of theindividual consciousness. Firstly, observing the characterization of “consciousness” on social andeducational background as the realistic foundation. Then, seeking the idea of the “consciousness”from related subjects such as philosophy, psychology, sociology regarded as the theoretical basis.Trying to explain teachers’ professional development based on individual consciousnesscombining educational research with the related subjects. Through this theoretical perspective, andthe investigations carried out by this paper, describing the performance of teacher’s individualconsciousness in reality, analyzing the issues, solving the problems in rational ways. Finally, backingto reconstruction of the theory, through handling internal and external conditions, teachers can builda time and space complex to boost growth.There exist different degrees of the missing or alienation of conscious both in social andeducational field according to the study. And a variety of disciplines have studied consciousness fromdifferent levels and angles. Specific to the professional development of teachers’ based onindividual consciousness, the teachers’ consciousness are different according to their developmentstages. The development of teachers based on individual consciousness shows in “self-consciousness”,“the consciousness to theory”,“to practice”,“to career ideals andaspirations” Through the feedback of the survey, the main problems are the initial discomfort ofself-role transformation, the immobilization thinking of the relationship of theory and practice, instrumentally expecting of theory, the lag to perceive problem and lack of consideration dealingwith the issues, and planning career aspirations in the utilitarian way.It’s a long range and all-round process of teachers’ professional development. Thispaper tries a theoretical reconstruction to explore teachers’ development based on individualconsciousness. It’ is a transmutation process including “weaving cocoon”,“breaking thecocoon”,“newborn” to promote their development. Teachers can gradually expand thegrowing space and achieve development through the daily classroom teaching.
