China has deepened its diplomatic missions and enhanced its ties with many African countries. The characteristics of the ensuing curriculum development as well as its future trends have been discussed. This thesis basically consists of three parts where the first part comprises an introduction and the second part delves into the details mentioned above in three major lines of discussion and the epilogue.Firstly, a brief introduction of the background of the primary education curriculum reform in Mauritius has been discussed. The present situation has also been described while looking at the historical data to list the achievements of the education sector in Mauritius during the past years. The treatment of historical data has been divided into three different evolutionary phases, namely:(a) the germination phase (before independence was attained in1968),(b) the formative phase (after independence in1968to the late90’s) and (c) the developing phase (early21st century till2010).Secondly, the foundations of the educational reform agenda in the primary education subsector has been introduced and discussed in the light of the2010Government Programmer which redirected the educational reform processes in Mauritius. Hence the new concepts and the goals of National curriculum at primary level as well as its detailed structure has been described. For a more comprehensive treatment of the subject, the evaluation system and the implementation of safeguards of curriculum reforms as well as its impact on teachers, schools, and other crucial aspects has been considered. In the third instance, the characteristics as well as the challenges posed in the implementation of the educational reforms in Mauritius has be endue treatment. Moreover, the future development trends are foretold from an academic perspective. Already, it is seen that the crux of the challenges lies in the language issues and the inadequacies presented by the Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations. The analysis and discussions derived from the research questions are dealt with from a perspective of policy, content, teaching methodologies. While remaining ethical and quite academic in the venture, no personal judgment has been issued on the developing trends of the primary education sector of Mauritius and as well as its future.
