Teacher who is the domination of teaching activities has been the body of human resources’development in school, which has not only the common features of general ability construction, but also the characteristics of teachers’own capacity building. No matter the social background, guiding ideology, developmental level, or the social adaptability, etc. Contemporary education has shown different characteristics, as a strong particularity of the era for teachers’ability.’The Middle School Teachers’ Professional Standards (trial)" which is formulated by The Ministry of Education has been issued in2012, one of its basic idea is "ability", it also requires the combination of discipline knowledge, education theory and education practice; emphasizing of teaching practice ability; researching on middle school students, to follow the middle school students growth pattern, improving professional level of education; to consist on practice-reflection-practice again-reflection again for improve their professional ability.As the reasonable knowledge structure and ability structure is the fundament of teachers’professional development, the process of teachers’ professional development is also a process with constant accumulation of professional knowledge and constant improving of professional ability, therefore, the trend of treasuring teachers’practical ability has become the common trend of education reform among developed countries, by the way, they have attach importance to take effective measures for improving teachers’education ability. At the same time, realizing the meaning, function and value of teacher’s education ability will help us to take effective measures to improve teachers’ability and level for implying quality education, so that we can draw on the current worlds’experience in education reform, and keep up with the pace of The Times.Geography is a comprehensive and special discipline which across two major categories of natural science and humanities and social sciences in the field of curriculum content, so every aspect of geography teachers’ability would be much more complex, and the range would be much more expansive. Only geography teachers do their best to enrich their ability, can guarantee to get a rise out for geography curriculum goal.On the basis of interview to geography teachers of secondary schools in Gansu Province, we found that, under the impetus of the new curriculum reform, especially "The Middle School Teachers’ Professional Standard (trial)" promulgated, teachers have paid more attention on professional ability, however, we also found some problems, such as ignoring teachers’developmental ability, unknowing on teachers’ability, etc.We have developed the new ability structure of geography teachers, which is developed on the basis of the related theory of teachers’ability and the ability structure of geography teachers that put forward by some experts. Including general ability of geography teachers, professional ability of geography teachers, developmental ability of geography teachers. Then, we have taken parts of middle school teachers in Gansu province as investigation object, with carrying on the questionnaire of middle school geography teachers ability.Through the survey, we found that parts of subentry ability level of middle school geography teachers in Gansu province is low, the subitems which are different from others have been concentrated in the professional ability and developmental ability.In consideration of above investigation, according to geography teachers of secondary schools actual needs in Gansu Province, we take the investigation and analysis results to geography teachers of secondary schools as the breakthrough point, then analyzed the geography teachers of secondary schools ability level in Gansu Province. On the basis of investigation and level analyzing, we have put forward targeted strategies and ways to improve the capacity of geography teachers, then we have tried to explore the developmental strategies which is based on the ability formation and development of geography teachers, we also call it the strategy that " across the bottom".Finally, combing the theory of teachers’professional development, we have put forward the total strategy for developing middle school teachers’ability:Taking lifelong learning as idea, to promote the transformation from knowledge to ability; Taking steering as assistant power, to promote the ascension of geography teachers’ability; Taking self-perfection as power, to realize the exerting of subjectivity. At the same time, we have put forward the corresponding strategy and the way to ascend the ability structure of geography teachers.
