The article is to sort out the historical development course of collegesand other educational institutes majoring in sports through documentary method and thecomprehensive interviews with the relevant scholars. In the previous research work, a fact has beenunveiled that throughout the unrest period from the end of Qing Dynasty and the Republic of Chinain Sichuan, a rather remote corner of China, a considerable number of this kind of educationalinstitutes were founded. This article comes into being to account for the wonder how come thishappened in a place in such a period.Three aspects are included in this article. Firstly, the historical background. Secondly, thedevelopment of these institutes in the Republic of China, including those which moved to Sichuanduring the Anti-Japanese War. Thirdly, the social background and their positive contributions. As aresult, two major reasons are discovered. One is that at that time, the whole country was badly inneed of spots teaching staff. The other is that a group of enlightened social activists were gatheringrevolutionary forces under the cover of these institutes to bring about a brighter future for thecountry which was under the rule of a corrupted and feeble government. Although most of theseinstitutes were short-lived, they cast new light on the sports education and the destiny of thecountry.
