Comprehensive art course is a new national course which has been put in use inthe new national curriculum reform since2001. Comprehensive art course is thecombination of music, art, drama, dance, film and other art forms. It has been offeredin Kaifu District of Changsha for more than ten years. According to the fact of thecomprehensive art teachers’ overall competence of solving the existing problems, andproblem, this article is based on the research of individual cases in Kaifu District ofChangsha and focuses on how to improve the comprehensive art teachers’transdisciplinary competence. This research will provide a valuable reference forpromoting comprehensive art teachers’ professional development. The view of thecomprehensive art teachers’ transdisciplinary competence includes the teachers’self-quality culture, the ability of practicing and mastering the comprehensive artcourse, which is very necessary and is set on the basis of theory and policy. Thetheoretical foundations for the comprehensive art course consist of curriculumintegration theory, humanistic theory, postmorden curriculum theory, the multiplexintelligent theory and teachers’ professional development theory. And it has followedthe outline of basic education reform and the art curriculum standards (2011). Thereare also some problems in the process of offering comprehensive art courses in KaifuDistrict, such as a passive attitude, one-sided understanding of teaching materials andthe new art course, lack of co-operation and communication, poor training and lack offound. Our main methods of developing the comprehensive art teachers’transdisciplinary competence are as follows: professional leading and a variety oftraining, making the team cooperation; the practice of classroom teaching, cross-training of different subjects; multi-party participation; different perspectives; thetraining on basic skills and building an art workshop. To improve the view of the artteachers’ transdisciplinary competence, what should be done is to build reasonablesystems and create proper environments of comprehensive art education. Teacherstraining colleges should change the training mode, and enhance the art teachers’transdisciplinary competence. And more opportunities and funds should be providedfor training comprehensive art teacher to help them to promote their professionaldevelopment.
