Since the beginning of21st century, China has been carrying out the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education in most rural areas, which adapts to the changes of the economic and social development of town and country, promotes the effective allocation and use of educational resources at the stage of compulsory education, upgrades the level of education, gratifies the most children’s desire of accepting high-quality education, pushes forward the balanced development of compulsory education in town and country. However, the far-away schools for some students, the increased economic load for the parents, the lack of the full-time teachers, and the lack of child’s emotional tie to his or her parents, all these problems will bring negative influence to carry out the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education in rural areas in the future.By means of the theoretical method and the empirical method, this thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of the background, the meaning, the research methods and object, the concepts and the characteristics of the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education, then a contrastive analysis of the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education between Gansu and its neighbor, Qinghai Province, and an empirical research on the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education in Jinta County of Jiuquan, Xifeng District of Qingyang, and Wen County of Longnan, which are all in Gansu Province. Finally, this thesis discusses the effect of the enforcement and the problems of the adjustment of the layout structure of compulsory education, and presents strategies and advice for its sustainable development.From the point of this thesis, we should adjust the layout structure of compulsory education in rural areas according to the scientific theory and promote the quality of education by strengthening the construction of a contingent of teachers, intensifying the informatization of education, and exploring the new mode of running schools. We should enlarge educational expenditure in rural areas by enlarging public expenditure, improving the public expenditure regulations, exploring the regulations of establishments of the teachers in rural areas and subsidizing the needy students more. Letting the students go to the school which is not far from his or her home, reconstructing schools in the proper districts or making use of the idle schools, all the above can make a scientific and effective adjustment. Finally, this thesis presents some reasonable advice on exploring and improving the policies of adjusting the layout structure of compulsory education in rural areas, on promoting the administrative level of compulsory education in rural areas, on making overall plans on educational resources in town and country, and on advancing the balanced development of education.
