Intensive competition in volleyball games makes physical strength an essential factor thataffects athletic performance. As a good approach to improvement, the newly emerged CoreStrength Theory and related workouts has been favored by increased numbers of physiatrist,PE coaches and professional athletes. This article reported and studied a programmed Core Strength training in oneof the leading domestic women’s volleyball teams as such to explore and understand theapplication of Core Strength workouts by volleyball athletes. Our case study was based on a trial of Core Strength Programme in the Summer Trainingperiod in2010conducted by the China PLA Wowen’s Volleyball Team. Each individual’sphysical performance levels were recorded before and after both designed periods duringwhich Core Strength Programme and Conventional Programme were designated forcomparison. Workout programmes and drills were monitored and recorded, practical issueswere studied and analyzed, followed with improvement and innovation on Core Strengthprogramme recommended for the future development of China women’s volleyball skill andactivities. Our methodologies include comparative data analysis, theoretical research andlogic analysis, as well as questionnaire both designed for athletes and coaches. Conclusionof the study was that each type of training theory and its programme has its unique merits instrengthening different parts of body muscles that helps volleyball players achieving greaterand higher athletic performance. It is recommended that different types of integratedtraining programme should be planned with care to increase effectiveness and to aim atindividual target, and such practice is preferably equipped with further understanding andknowledge of Core Strength Theory and its applications by coaches and training specialists. Two athletic injury cases in the PLA team were specially reviewed as examples in the last partof this article, in order to generally prove the greater possibilities of limiting sport injuries andenhancing rehabilitation provided by Core Strength Training.
