As a new and special pattern of Chinese higher education, whose target is turning from elites to general students, independent institute is also the product of the reform and innovation of Chinese higher education. As a metropolis and the only municipality directly under the Central Government of Western China, Chongqing underwent strenuous efforts in the past10years. National economy and people’s living standards have increased significantly. However, education comes first in all our undertakings. At present, Chongqing owns7independent institutes and trains nearly20thousand students each year, which assumes the training responsibilities of nearly1/8undergraduates of the city. Independent institute, as the important component of Chongqing’s higher education, expedites the full utilization of educational resources, especially the good quality resources; speeds up the process of popularization and modernization of higher education and sends batches of innovative and applied talents for our all undertakings. However, under the influence of international financial crisis and Enrolment Expansion Policy of colleges and universities in recent years, the numbers of graduates reach up to6.99million-a record high. Faced with continuously reduced work opportunities and soaring numbers of7million, the undergraduates of independent institutes encounter fiercer employment situation because of their short-term development and lower social recognition. Therefore, how to help college students establish correct employment outlook and promote employment competitiveness of undergraduates have become the new subject and area of theoretical research.On the basis of reading a lot of relevant documents and materials, via the research methods of questionnaire survey and comparative analysis and research idea of raising-analyzing-resolving problems, meanwhile combining with the practical experience in the independent institute, author takes the Chongqing Nanfang Translators College of SISU as an example and systematically analyzes the main problems existing in the employment of Chongqing independent institute undergraduates in recent years, and then actively quests for the effective approaches of employment guidance.This paper consists of3parts:The first part:The paper starts with the basic situation and career characteristics of Chongqing independent institute undergraduates, and then analyzes the importance of employment guidance. The author thinks that a thorough understanding of the basic situation of independent institute undergraduates contributes to carrying out targeted research.The second part:This part expounds the main problems existing in the employment and their subjective and objective factors from the aspects of politics, economy, culture, market, college, family and self. The author believes only if we consider the situation from different angles can we implement objective evaluation and accurately comprehend the development trend of Chongqing independent institutes.The third part: on the basis of self-building of independent institutes, this part elaborates on effective strategies on how to promote the employment of independent institute undergraduates from the aspects of students, all levels of college education, government, employing units and family. Therefore, a conclusion can be drawn that the development of Chongqing independent institutes is closely related to support of local government, transitional conceptions of employing units, efficient management of independent institutes, correct value orientation of family and constantly improving comprehensive quality of college studentsThe results of this study are useful for acquainting the departments in charge of education with the state of development of independent institutes, thereby, working out perfect policies and regulations; speeding up the specialty setting and innovation of teaching content to promote school-running capabilities; also helping the independent institute undergraduates have a better understanding of current employment situation and employment policy, consequently, opening up ways of finding jobs. Finally, the author expects that the above-mentioned study can be served as valuable references on benign development of Chongqing independent institutes.
