Suicide is affected by many factors,such as genetics, personality, socialand environmental factors and diseases, among which social andenvironmental factors can be the most important. Studies on the social andenvironmental factors concentrated on several aspects. Social factors includeage, gender, culture, social status, social support, media and so on. Familyfactors include friends and relatives’ suicides, violence, the relationshipbetween family members and so on. Certain life events include sex assault,natural disasters and some other life events that can’t be divided into socialand family factors. The risk factors of suicide have already been well studied.This review summarizes the updated literature on the social andenvironmental factors of suicide,in order to guide the prevention andintervention of suicide. As an act that can be prevented and interfered,suicide remains an important clinical problem in the world. Advancing ourunderstanding of underlying risk factors of suicide will help achieve moreefficient prediction, prevention and intervention.
