Preface of the mathematics curriculum standard for compulsory education (2011) says that education must be students oriented, fully mobilizing their participation and independent learning habits. The suggestion for implementing part states that mathematics education should create a question situation based, on students’ actual ability for their independent learning. Thus creating the question situation for students’ independent learning has been led to a new level. This paper has done some research on creating the question situation for students’ independent learning in junior high school with some research methods, such as documentary approach, investigation and case analysis. The author has done some theory research of creating question situation for students’ independent learning based on cognitive situation, learning theory, constructivism learning theory and humanity-oriented theory, etc. These are also theoretical foundation and preparation for this paper. Questionnaires were attained with the reference of a great amount of documents. Research has been carried out in the aspects of students’ independent learning awareness, habits and methods. Junior high students’ problems are obtained by analyzing the research results. Classification researches on independent learning and case analysis have been carried out according to the students’ problems. Conclusions from the above research:(1) Effective question situation is the beginning of independent learning, students’ independent learning ability can be improved through problems solution;(2) Junior high school students have some interest in mathematics but they lack initiative. Their main problems are:low awareness of independent learning, bad habits and inappropriate methods;(3) The paper has seven classifications for independent learning on account of students’ main problems and solutions.①applying question situation;②open-minded question situation;③intuitive question situation;④cognition conflict question situation;⑤question situation for association of old and new knowledge;⑥emotional involvement question situation;⑦reading syllabus question situation.Teaching suggestions have been put forward below based on the conclusions of the paper:(1) Teaching concepts and ideas must be changed so as to cultivate students’ independent learning;(2) Independent learning should be permeated in every detail of learning activity;(3) Independent learning is not only instilled in the classroom but also extended to intervals and after-school time;(4) Teachers should give students enough time and space so that their habits can be developed. Therefore, they can be the real main part.
