Reading is one of the means for people obtain information from the externalworld.Every language acquisition depends on a mass of reading.Many linguists andeducators have found that a large amount of reading is beneficial to the improvementof second language proficiency.’High School English Outline’ explicitly pointedout:"To improve the reading ability of students,teaching through textbooks is notenough.There must be plans to guide students to read a certain number of booksoutside class according to the specific circumstances of the students."Extracurricularreading,as an extension of classroom teaching,can provide comprehensible input andenhance learners’general language competence.Therefore, how to improve the readingskills of high school students in English independent extracurricular is well worthexploring.In this study, the investigation on the basis of the situation to understand that thePingjiang high school students in English extracurricular independent reading, analysis,and discovery the Pingjiang of high school students in English independent outsidereading prominent issue in the following aspects: students’ extracurricular interest inreading is not concentrated, not strong reading purpose and motivation; students do nothave enough extracurricular time to read; scarcity of reading material; students lackgood study habits; teachers lack the correct theory of reading guidance. There aremany other factors that affect the students’extra-currieular reading,such asthe development of economy and culture,the atmosphere of the cultural construction,the instruction of teachers in school and family education,etc.All these thingsmentioned above have direct or indirect effect on the students’ reading after class.Ifwe really want to change the situation, we must combine all the strength to deal withthe problems. Therefore, on the basis of empirical investigation, in order to enhancethe region’s high school students outside reading, the author puts forward somestrategies and methods from three subjects: schools, teachers, students: The schooleducation and teaching management service to the students for the purpose of, respectthe dominant position of student learning, make students become independent learners,School English extracurricular reading activities for students to engage in a convenientenvironment; Teachers to strengthen the theoretical training and improve theprofessional level, and provide effective guidance for the students’ own extracurricular reading; Students aware of the importance of English extracurricular reading andintentions of experience and actively participate in.
