NMET in recent years attaches importance to the assess of the students'reading abilities, especially emphasizing the profundity and the speed of reading comprehension. To meet such requirements, we need to improve our teaching materials as well as teaching methods. We ought to get rid of the bondage of the traditional concepts and teaching patterns so as to upgrade students'abilities in using English.We aim at carrying out our extracurricular reading experiment as follows: guide our students in their extracurricular reading by creating proper ,effective and systemic activities concerned with reading comprehension in the light of the concrete situation of our school. In order to get an ideal result, we'll ask our students to read a fixed quantity of reading materials on a daily basis. We will require our teachers to evaluate and supervise their students during our experiment. What's more, we'll analyze what will potentially influence the students'after-class reading activities and guide them to cope with the practical problems encountered in the process of their reading. In this research, we will employ students'extracurricular reading cards, explore effective operating methods for after-class reading and set up the mechanism of teaching administration in an effort to cultivate students'interest in learning English and enable them to achieve all-round development in their foreign language study.
