Effectiveness of class mainly refers to concrete progress or development that studentshave obtained from a period of teaching by teachers. Improving the effectiveness of class is toenable all students in the classroom get the maximum benefits and to achieve the objectives.But during the new curriculum reform, although some teachers have adopted many methodsin teaching English, their teaching with randomness and blindness has a serious impact on theeffectiveness of class. There still exist many problems both in theory and practical research inimplementing quality education in classroom teaching and improving the effectiveness ofclass. Therefore, it is essential to carry out studies on how to improve the effectiveness ofclassroom teaching and to summarize the positive and negative elements in this aspect.On the basis of the present research, this study will discuss and analyze somefundamental problems concerning the effectiveness of class, as supported by a number oftheories. The research approach is as follows. Firstly, the author will choose some naturalEnglish classroom activities to investigate and analyze the main factors that influence theeffectiveness of class, through the methods of questionnaire survey, observation and caseanalysis. At the same time, the author will reflect on and update the concept of improving theeffectiveness of class. The second step is to summarize and analyze the typical classroomactivities to form distinct cases of effective teaching and discuss methods of improving theeffectiveness.This thesis consists of six parts.Chapter I is introduction, which introduces the background and basis for the subject, aswell as the purpose and meaning of the research, etc.Chapters II and III are the literature review and theoretical basis. By analyzing thetheoretical basis, the key concepts involved in this thesis will be defined first and thepresent research situation at home and abroad will be summarized. This study is mainly basedon the theory of cognitive constructivism, teaching optimization and effective teaching theory.According to these theories, some research will be done on the principle and implementationof improving the effectiveness of English class, thus providing a theoretical guidance forimproving the effectiveness of English class.The fourth chapter aims to present the research methods, research procedures and theprocess of data collection. Research methods involved in this paper are questionnaire,classroom observation, literature research and case analysis. The subjects of the study consistof students and teachers from the high school where the author works. Four English teachers and their students are selected as the subjects for class observation and case analysis. Theauthor attended their classes for a semester and analyzed the statistics systematically.Chapter V is about the analysis and discussion. The procedure of data analysis ispresented and the main factors that influence the effectiveness of class are analyzed. All thesewill contribute to helping teachers improve the concept of education and optimize theteaching strategies and teaching methods, thus improving the operational capacity andresearch proficiency of teachers.Chapter VI is the conclusion section. Effective teaching can arouse the enthusiasm ofstudents and stimulate students’ cognitive needs, and help to develop students’ innovativespirit and practical ability. In the process of teaching, constant reflection makes the teachersteach effectively. Only when the teachers respect their students, do constant reflection,research attentively and teach patiently can they achieve the three-dimensionalobject—knowledge and skills, processes and methods, attitudes and values. In conclusion, totruly improve the effectiveness of class, it is necessary to make the teaching goal clear, themethod novel and the time compact.
