With the continuous development of our country’s economy and changes it brings to us, the social structure also begin to change, social contradictions become increasingly prominent, and the resulting social problems are also eagerly needed to be solved. Social work as a method to solve social problems and maintain social harmony began to walk into the sight of people. In2006on the party’s sixth plenary of sixteen session put forward to build a large scale of social work talent team, with the support, social work professional talent team began to develop. However, with the constant development of social work, we can also notice the problems behind. Among them, the environment for the development of social work hasn’t established, the public haven’t accept social work yet, and the phenomenon of brain drain is very common, such problems hindered the construction and development of social work, therefore our attention and discuss is needed.According to the literature, the previous studies on social identity of social work focused more on the object part of social identity, what’s more, as the elite of social work professional field, the master of social work didn’t have graduates until2010, therefore there is few study focus on them. So it’s become very important for us to work on the influence that social identity brings to the graduates when comes to employment choice, as well as the impact on development of social work.To collect data, this article used literature analysis, in-depth interviews and participatory observation. On this basis, the writer makes reference to Coleman’s rational choice theory then analysis the current situation of social work, put forward that social identity influence graduates’employment choice through social status, post setting, compensation and welfare, substitutability and professional identity. On the basis of previous analysis, author draw a conclusion that as the rational actors in employment choice behavior, graduates follow the principle of pursuit the maximum benefits, therefore social identity of social work indeed influence the choice of employment and led to the outflow of talent.To sum up, this article put forward some countermeasures to improve the social identity of social work. First, we should improve the quality of social workers by improve the barriers to entry, highlight the specialization of social work service then improve the public trust of professional services. Second, starting from the professional organization, to foster professional institutions, perfect the system of social work services. Finally, strengthen the propaganda, promote and popularize knowledge of social work to cultivate the public awareness and demand.
