With the deepening of the reform and opening up policy, the brain drain in universities for nationalities in the minority areas is escalating. The drainage of those academic backbones and leaders—with high titles and rich experience in both teaching and scientific research—has brought great impact on the normal operation of teaching and research in those universities. It would not only hinder the normal development of those universities, but also weaken their competitive strength. Therefore, how to make good use of talents and retain talents has become a major challenge for those universities to maintain their stability, which is well within the range of this research. The paper begins with a systematic elaboration of relevant theories on the brain drain and the incentive mechanism of knowledge workers. Based on the content motivation theory and process theories, it performs a SWOT analysis of the status quo and impact of the brain drain in FB University. Questionnaires and online surveys are conducted with some teachers in FB University and the lost talents to make a probing analysis of the causes for the brain drain, such as social factors, welfare conditions, research environment, management system and teachers’ personal development. Countermeasures and suggestions are given from six different aspects, such as management mechanism, incentive and restrictive mechanism and construction of talents team.Combined with the data and materials of the brain drain collected from FB university, the author applies her theoretical knowledge and relevant working experience in the researching and writing process to analyze the brain drain problem in those universities, and puts forward some countermeasures so as to provide some theoretical bases for retaining talents in universities for nationalities in the minority areas.
