Reading is the most important instruction in Chinese teaching, which has been concerned by scholars for a long time, therefore, research papers and idea are emerging in an endless stream. The mechanisms of physiology, mentality and intelligence of people are different in various ages and the senior high school stage a transition period from teenage to adolescence has several special psychological characteristics. In order to effectively train high school students reading ability, these special characteristics must be studied combining correct reading instruction.ZHU Xi is a master and main representative person of the Neo-Confucianism of the Song dynasty. He is enthusiastic about knowledge and has accumulated rich experience in teaching forming a kind of unique education ideas and teaching methods, which have guiding significance to our teaching today. ZHU Xi inherited the Confucian tradition and emphasized the leader role of moral education in teaching and pursuit for truth. His reading ideas are concluded into six principles called ’ZHU reading method’:improving step by step, reading earnestly and thinking carefully, feeling humbly, experiencing personally, doing quickly, keeping ambition. All the six principles are an organism and inextricably tied up with each other internally, which are a completed process and are the essence of the reading experience generating based on the Chinese ancient profound culture accumulation and have a good guiding significance for the current high school reading instruction. The principle of ’improving step by step’ reflects the order attribute of the reading instruction which means reading should be boosted stage by stage and designedly following the law according to the characteristics of the age, psychology knowledge reserve of the senior high school students from a lesson to an unit, to a whole book and then to the whole high school period,’reading earnestly and thinking carefully’ and ’feeling humbly’ are the basic reading method applying to all kinds of articles. The reading pleasure can be realized by doing more reading, thinking, tasting cannily and deeply.’experiencing personally’ reflects practice view of reading instruction, which means reading should relate the reality, appreciate the thoughts and feelings of the article and perceive and understand life at the same time.’doing quickly’ and ’keeping ambition’ are the basic attitude of reading. When doing reading, one should race against time and has high sense of urgency, at the same time, for success one should have lofty aspirations, a good attitude and insist for a long time.The educational theories accumulated by the ancient educators through rich teaching practice have significant reference to our current high school reading instruction. We should continue to discard the dross and select the essential, then to learn the essence and improve the theories, which can provide an useful exploration for our Chinese education.
