The widely use of maps and charts to express the concept of space and spatial str ucture of geographic things, to show their relationship and progresses is the most prominent feature in the geography study. As a effective way in geography study, learn how to effectively interpret and extract the right information contained in the material proved is very important. With the introduction and implementation of quality education in the new curriculum reform, gain the ability of reading, analyzing and using the geography knowledge to solve some particular problem is more and more important. It implys a higher requirements for the students at the same time. Due to the lack of systematic training of the ability to interpret the image information, Majority of students gain an optimistic emotion to image related problems, what usually results to a poor learning outcomes. As a result, this paper mainly proposes some methods of geographic information extraction and interpretation of charts, in order to help those student have such problems to improve their capability to get the right information when facing image and chart related problems.This study used inductive analysis; analyzed geographic examination of2009’s to2013’s college entrance examination questions, to conclude the characteristics of images and charts related questions in recent years’college entrance examinations, and show to readers the mainly five kinds of style of questions in those exams. By test high school students’geography image information dealing abilities and collecting questionnaires, from the basic method of reading pictures and charts, to obtaining the basic knowledge of geography and the relationship of all the required knowledge, I use scientific method of analysis all data collected to find the main reason why students have the shortage in dealing with image information extraction. With all those results, compared with the theories I learnt to come up with an effective way to help students gain the ability in dealing with image information extraction problem and get high scores in exams.Meanwhile, this study analyzed the students’shortage in extracting image information in examinations: lack of the basic geographic knowledge, weak geographic thinking methods. All that leads to the weak memories of basic geographic knowledge. On the other hand, many students have not got the ability to organize all varieties of knowledge, that means students can not make the migration of knowledge. Moreover, a variety of students can’t relate their knowledge learnt to their daily life, they have no idea of the use of geographic knowledge. In the teaching process, Teachers do not make students to realize the importance of geographic image related problems. Nearly using the images and charts to explain geographic knowledge. Which makes the students show no interest in geographic study. With no doubt it will lead to a bad circumstance. To explain why, this paper suggests eight suggestions:(1) application of psychological theory in teaching;(2) understand the forms and characteristics of geographic image related problems;(3)make student understand what is required in dealing suck problems;(4)introduce methods in dealing with that kind of problems;(5) focus on main points and master the basic geographic knowledge;(6)form an knowledge system, and apply what you have learnt to another one;(7)keep particular training, form a good habit in geography study.(8) Improve the teachers’ quality.
