A Study On The Image Of A Social Worker In A College Student’s Mind

To strengthen the construction of talents construction in social work is to thoroughly implement the spirit of18th CPC National Congress. It has become a significant and urgent research subject to create a harmonious society. The image of the social worker refers to the public assessment and evaluation after the formation of the impression of social workers.By using the theory of social psychology, sociology,social research methods and other disciplines relevant theory, literature research, investigation, study and experience summary method, this study aims at a real social worker and an ideal social worker in a college student’s mind, attempting to identify the social workers’real image, ideal image and its difference, and then sums up the measure of the construction of the social worker image. Respectively36and34descriptive words are selected after110college students have completed the questionnaires. From five levels of assessments,506college students make their choices.The survey presents as following.A real social worker in a college student’s mind may be classified into six types: attitude and behavior toward work, personality characteristics, job characteristics, knowledge and ability, positive image and overall image. Low pay, low threshold, high pressure, work hard to carry out, selfless dedication, low professionalism, lack of skills, flexible, low quality are the first ten descriptive words for a real social worker. Different gender, grade, growth, and contact social workers experience an effect on college students’idea of a social worker image.An ideal social worker in a college student’s mind may also be classified into six types:attitude and behavior toward work, personality characteristics, job characteristics, knowledge and ability, positive image and overall image. High quality, social respect and recognition, strong sense of responsibility, selfless dedication, justice angel, professional, having positive energy, broad scope, strong social mind, having a variety of skills are the first ten descriptive words for an ideal social worker. College students of different grades of social workers view of ideal social workers do not differ significantly.The image of a real social worker and an ideal are different in the aspect of structure as well as the same characteristics. There is a big gap between a real social worker and an ideal one.We can mainly base on three aspects to build the image of social workers, namely improvement of social work related policies, the construction of social workers image itself, and the change of the public impression of social workers. One is to improve the social work related policies.The second is to improve the social worker own quality and accomplishment. The third is to reshape the public impression of social workers.
