Since the implementation of the new high school curriculum reform in2003,teaching and research on the optional course have developed fast and attracted moreattention. Chinese Novel Appreciation is one of the elective textbook series “noveland drama" published by People’s Education Publishing House. This textbook isdifferent from the materials selected from the short stories and novels in thecompulsory teaching textbooks. This new textbook pays more attention to the novelas a whole in the appreciation and highlights the life experience of students. In thisthesis, relying on the optional textbook Chinese novels appreciation, a preliminarystudy on the "Chinese novel appreciation" optional course teaching is carried out inthe school where the author works.Except the introduction part and the conclusion part, this thesis is mainly dividedinto four chapters. Chapter one clearly defines the content of the research topic andalso introduces the status and trends of the research topic in detail, which lays thefoundation for the following research. Chapter two is an overview of the optionalcourse Chinese novel appreciation, mainly from the two aspects of teaching materialsand teaching process. In terms of teaching materials, from the thought of the authorto the textbook, the thesis introduces the choreography system and specific content ofthe textbook Chinese novel appreciation,as well as some distinct features andshortcomings. From the aspect of teaching, the thesis talks about the teaching time,teaching forms as well as evaluation methods. Chapter three is the exploration on theoptional course of Chinese Novel Appreciation, which is the main part of the thesis.According to the style of the materials and the characters of the course, the authorfocuses on three teaching strategies: the overall consideration, reading instruction;deep inquiry, dialogue teaching; diverse activities; situational teaching. The lastchapter is the reflection on Chinese novel appreciation, respectively from theperspective of students and teachers.The author puts forwards some suggestions, forexample, students should focus on text reading and teachers should improvethemselves with the times and improve their self-learning ability.
