| According to the features of English learning, the teaching process is usually divided into six basic steps, warm-up, revision, presentation, practice, consolidation and homework. The six steps are connected closely each other, and clever arrangement can make the teaching get twice the result with half the effort. Homework is an indispensable component in teaching process. Students are able to be sure whether they have grasped the knowledge in class, the teachers can adjust their teaching plan according to the situation of students’ homework completion. Homework is looked as "tasks assigned to students by school teachers, which is usually carried out during non-school hours" The writer surveyed and analyzed the students’ attitude to English homework, the relationship between homework completion and achievement, the factors influencing students’ homework completion and gave some suggestions to English teachers. The writer wishes English teachers will be able to adjust their homework strategies under the suggestions given in the study.This paper is divided into five parts:Part â… :The Research BackgroundPart â…¡:Literature Review:The literature review involves such main theories as Constructivism Cognitive Learning theory. The content of the literature review covers the relationship between students’ academic achievement and homework; students’attitude to homework; the factors which effect students not to finish homework; suggestions given to English teachers, etc.Part â…¢:The Research Design:Design the research questions.(1) What’s the relationship between homework and students’academic achievement?(2) What’s the students’ attitude to homework?(3) What are the factors that affect students not to complete their homework? This part also introduced the experiment procedure. Two questionnaires are designed and analyzed.Part â…£:Data collection and analysis. By analyzing the data of questionnaires, the writer drew the following conclusions:The student academic achievement is positive correlation with homework and students’ attitude to homework. There are many factors which influence students not to finish homework on time. The main factors include teachers, students, the homework content and style, etc.Part â…¤:Conclusion and implications of the research. By studying and analyzing the above aspects about homework, the writer put forward the further suggestions about homework to English teachers how to design more effective homework and improve the students’ homework completion rate. Teachers had better provide a menu of options, multilevel structure of homework. This means every student can have what is most appropriate for his/her developmental level.
