With the opportunities the digital age bring, coupled with a rising public demand in f ostering of culture, the content of our urban culture has become another important focus point of online users. On the other hand, museums as iconic offline cultural landmarks of our cities, are also seeking new development methods so as to gain a greater cultural inf luence.Due to the shallow excavation of resources on urban culture available in the museum s, compound with the inaccurate analysis of the Internet model, there seems to exist an i mbalance between user demand and the current design scene. Hence, some design ideas were explored through combing and researching case studies of online exhibitions organi zed by museums showcasing urban culture, and from digging for resources in the museu ms, taking into consideration of the different ways these resources could be integrated in to an online platform. This thesis is divided into four parts:firstly, the analysis on the relationship between urban culture and museums; secondly, analysis on the advantages of exhibiting on an Int ernet platform for museums; thirdly, outlining of the design methods and lastly, practical verification of the platform. For the first part, this thesis first addressed the basic features of urban culture and th e current status of Internet platform for urban culture, followed by detailed analysis of h ow museums exhibit culture based on various aspects, such as the relationship between museums and urban culture; the functionalities of museums and the current model of exh ibition. The meaning of showcasing urban culture can be concluded in these three aspect s, namely-to protect urban culture, commercial development value and satisfy user dem and.For the second part, it began by addressing the advantages of using the Internet as a showcasing platform, and then focusing on analyzing the feasibility of using an Internet-based platform, providing design solutions and advantage analysis below. The third part initially analyzed the principles of showcasing urban culture via Internet-b ased platform. Under the guidance of this principle, three main design directions were de cided, based on the different resources of urban culture found in museums, taking into ac count the benefits an Internet-based platform can provide. They are-building of website to showcase urban culture, development of Internet applications and using virtual reality to restore cultural scenes, which are individually described and demonstrated with real-1ife case studies, in order to best elaborate and explain these design thinking directions.Last but not least, according to the design brief as illustrated above, the fourth part1ooks at the iconic representation of Guangzhou’s urban culture-Chen Jia Ci (The Chen Clan Temple), using it as an example, a working APP was designed and completed to su pport and verify the design thinking direction illustrated in this thesis...
