The pursuit of individual freedom in modern society leads to freedom of anomie.Individuals abandon their responsibilities to others, have less enthusiasm for public affairsand gradually become private person. With growing alienation for excessive liberation ofpersonal desire in modern society, Individual freedom is becoming less constraint, withoutambition and no substantial.Modern education, advocating the education idea of "students’ freedom", is going toteach students some knowledge and skills for helping them pursue freedom. In schooling,teachers should plan and implement activities according to the idea of "students’ freedom",because this idea has an enormous positive effect on education. However, the imbalancesbetween "positive freedom" and "negative freedom" in practice lead to the alienation of"students’ freedom".Because of different understanding of freedom, there are many different practice offreedom. If the issue of students’ freedom is considered on Multiple Perspectives, we couldunderstand it clearly. In this paper, students’ freedom in modern education will beconsidered on perspectives of two opposite ideas of freedom. The comparison and conflictof them clear what freedom should be pursued.On theories about freedom from Constant and Berlin, in modern education students’freedom that individuals neglect duty to others and society is mainly equivalent toConstant’s "individual freedom" or Berlin’s negative liberty which is even becoming"illusive freedom". This paper argues that negative liberty is the necessary of personalfreedom, but that it has also dangers to individuals or society like "modern freedom". Thatis to say,"the freedom" becomes indulgent behavior in control of individual desire.Comparing to negative liberty, positive liberty also can bring dangers for it may bedespitefully used by others and become despot tools. However, initiative of positive libertyis very important to practice of freedom.In brief, students’freedom is the condition of self-existence and self-realization, is the unity of value and conditions of freedom."I" am generative and integrated, whichdetermine individuals are not only private person, but public person. Students’ freedom isunity of "negative freedom" and "positive freedom". The practice of the students’"positivefreedom" is beneficial to promote their "negative freedom". In liberal educationenvironment, students can make decision and act independently in their capabilities andpromote themselves ability through actions, which will help individuals to achieve moreprivate space and to live in more tolerant and relaxed environment.
