As the reflection of civilization, reading has become an important symbol to measure the state and national civilized levels. Middle-school students in contemporary China are a special education groups. Their special reading and cognitive thinking is slowly formed, and there is a process of transition towards to mature, so it is necessary to make a survey on their extracurricular reading. Although this type of research has long been common, but today social knowledge change rapidly, and the diversified way of reading and reading content are more and more obvious, high school students’ extracurricular reading pattern is slowly changing. This dynamic cultural phenomenon compels us as soon as possible investigation and research, in order to form a dynamic guiding theory, and serve the Chinese population characteristics of reading behavior.The author from September2010to June2013, has participated in "Master Teacher program" which organized by the Ministry of Education, and has taught in a national high school for ethnic minorities in western Hubei Enshi. Understanding local culture, environment and education status of provides facilities for investigation and research of the author. EnsShi’s culture is rooted in Ba culture, but also beyond the Ba culture. The geographical characteristics of ethnic customs and rich eco-tourism environment bred toughness national temperament, which led to the Enshi area high school student extracurricular reading on the aesthetic characteristics of folk showing in the reading skills. The " Minority Students’Extracurricular Reading Research in Enshi " is based on the actual extra-curricular school students reading problems, reading from a reading of the conditions and environment, motivation and interest, form and content, curricular and extra-curricular teaching, Investigation of the cognitive aspects of reading and self-awareness.The survey shows high school students extracurricular reading Enshi on sex structure there is an imbalance, high school girls better than boys in the same grade; harsh reading environments, the whole society over-emphasis on graduation rates, ignoring the student’s extracurricular reading; very few sources of outside books, reading extremely single species; extracurricular reading showing a wide range of purposes, utilitarian; extracurricular reading lack of scientific methods to guide reading cognitive ability is not strong, weak sense of self and other characteristics. To solve the above problems, I believe that middle school students improve reading Enshi region should follow the principles of the strengths of open source, adhere to maximize student extracurricular resources; adhere to the people-oriented principle, promote student extracurricular reading environment of human culture; adhere to gradual principles, encourage students to extracurricular reading modern thinking. While teachers should rightly guided Enshi Students extracurricular reading method should first follow the physiological mechanism, and fully mobilize the reading sense organs; Secondly, we should learn metacognitive strategies, scientific control of the reading process; Furthermore principle should be used to construct a comprehensive grasp good reading frame. Finally Enshi Autonomous extracurricular reading activities Students should also be thinking conversion, meaning that advocates diversity, not superstition inherent understanding; stick reader standard, releasing their own imagination; learn to dialogue and exchanges in the interaction and common progress.
