Language teaching begins with language and character, aiming at cultivating students’language qualities. Teaching of reading is the main part of language teaching, with practicalwritings making up the great majority in the teaching of reading at senior high school.Practical writings, applicable more both in daily life and work, are necessary in satisfyingneeds of basic cultural survival, but its teaching is seldom mentioned under the generalbackground of “weakening of style”, and its study becomes rare, resulting in the weakening ofthe sense of style in teaching. High school students, therefore, can not improve their languagequalities through learning practical writings.Style and language use are one, as the way of expression follows certain principle in theprocess of human communications. The study of style probes the use of language in terms ofwords, syntax and rhetoric. Reading of practical writings is limited by style. With theintroduction of stylistic theory in the teaching of practical writings, the reformation oflanguage can be promoted, the content of language can be completed, the quality oflanguage can be strengthened.The present paper intends to employ stylistic theory in the teaching of practical writingsin senior high school. Chapter I defines the basic concept, category and classification ofpractical writings, determines the object of the study, and analyzes the problems in theteaching of practical writings and reasons of its unpopularity among students. Chapter II is theimplication and status quo of teaching of practical writings, on the basis of summarizing thestylistic knowledge. Chapter III is the application of stylistic theory in the reading of practicalwritings. In the perspective of stylistic theory, the paper explores how to put stylisticknowledge into the teaching of practical writings from three aspects of words, syntax andrhetoric.I hope that the style theory can be more widely used in practical reading teachingbecause of this paper. And rich the angle of the reading, provide reference for readingteaching.
