Multimedia Technology (MT) is a comprehensive technology of processing text, image, animation, sound and image, which contains various media processing technology and information compression technology, multimedia computer technology, multimedia database technology and multimedia human-computer interface technology. In order to understand the current application of MT in English classroom teaching in rural high schools, the thesis starts a specific research in Beiliu Senior School. This paper is theoretically based on the Constructivism and Learning Motivation Theory, and is carried out by questionnaire survey, interview and case observation. The subjects of the research are the540students from Senior1and Senior2in Beiliu Senior High School and the30English teachers. The object of the research is to know the teachers’ skills and ability of the application of MT; teachers and students’attitude towards Multimedia Assisted English Teaching (MAET), and MAET’s influence on student’s learning and teachers’ teaching.After the study, it can be found that there are some problems on MAET. The multimedia equipment in rural high school is inqdequate; teachers’ skills and ability of the application of MT is poor; their knowledge about the relevant theories is limited. However, MAET gains general recognition of the teachers and students in rural high schools and they think that MAET can bring about obvious teaching and learning effects. Whereas, there are such problems in the MAET as that the quality of the courseware is in need of improvement, that the time spent on courseware preparation is too long, that there is a lack of communication between teachers and students, and that students have limited time to absorb the information in classes. In order to optimize the use of MT in English classes, to ensure the smooth implementation of the New English Curriculum Reform, and to achieve better English teaching effect, this paper puts forward some corresponding suggestions on MAET:government and schools should realize the must-trend of MAET, make more effort to develop MT and strengthen teachers’ training on the application of MT; teachers should improve their understanding of MAET, make full use of it and get rid of the problems arising from the improperly use of MT; as for students, they should correctly know that MT is just a tool for them to learn, and they should take advantage of it to widen their learning channels.
