The application of sports games, anoutstanding feature in Standards (2011Edition), is not only conducive to attractingstudents’ attention and mobilizing the students’ enthusiasm, but also beneficial forstudents to experience the fun of sports and stimulate their strong interests in learning. This outstanding feature provides physical education teachers with a broaderdevelopment space and meanwhile inspires them fulfill the following tasks: select anddesign games and activities that are suitable for students’ physical and mentalcharacteristics, capable of stimulating students’ learning interests, in accordance withthe teaching content of the physical education in primary school; pay attention todesigning and creating warm and harmonious physical education environment andatmosphere. Based onthis current situation, this study attempts to build a sports-game-based teaching mode, and verify its feasibility in primary school physical education and health courses mainlythrough experiments in the hope of enriching classroom teaching of physical education and providing reference for the reform of physical education curriculum in primaryschool through the exploration of new teaching mode for physical education. This study carries out a detailed research in depth with multiple research methodsincluding literature method, experimental method, questionnaire survey method, fieldsurvey method and interview method, mathematical statistics method. The results showthat:Firstly, game-based teaching mode for physical education is a relatively stable, systematic, and theoretical teaching pattern. Under the guidance of the ideas oflife-based education and happy education, it designs relevant scenes, characters andcompetitive modes according to teaching goals, creates a atmosphere with enjoyment, carries out a sequential teaching process consisting of introducing to game-basedteaching, entering into game-based teaching, experiencing game-based teaching, evaluating game-based teaching in order to improve students’ learning interests andguide them to take an active part in sports activities.Secondly, the implementation of game-based physical education teaching mode isconducive to reaching teaching goals within class hour, strengthening classroommanagement, creating a good learning atmosphere for students and improvingtimeliness of teaching, cultivating students’ concept of life-long physical education, andmold students’ sound personality. So it is necessary for game-based physical educationteaching mode to be applied in primary school physical education and health courses.Thirdly, game-based physical education teaching mode is feasible in primaryschool physical education and health courses in that, in the investigated school, physicaleducation teachers’ quality and teaching level meet the requirements of implementinggame-based physical education teaching mode, site and equipment can ensure theimplementation of game-based physical education teaching mode as well.Fourthly, the experimental results show that applying game-based physicaleducation teaching mode in primary school physical education and health courses cannot only improve student’s learning interest in physical education learning, improvingstudents’ subjective exercise experience, but also improve students’ basic physicalability in activities of running, jumping, and throwing. Therefore, it is feasible to apply game-based physical education teaching mode in primary school physical education andhealth courses.
