A corporation is not only an economic unit pursuing profit, but also an important force thatsupports the operation of society. It has become a consensus among outstanding managers offoreign corporations that they should actively perform social responsibility with implementationof a normative management system. As the overall performance of domestic corporations infulfilling social responsibility is rather unsatisfactory, it is time for them to explore operablestrategies and tactics for management of social responsibilities. However, scholars are stillplagued by problems in cost-effective analysis for a corporation to perform social responsibility, and whether the rationality and validity of corporate social responsibility can be tested andverified through new perspectives, such as from the perspective of staff motivation. In view ofthis, this research attempts to find out the answer through theoretical and practical analysis.Based on the stakeholder theory and social exchange theory, this research constructs theconceptual model in which corporate social responsibility affects employee engagement throughorganizational identification. By employing the method of multiple regression analysis, resultsare showed as follows.(1) The mechanism of corporate social responsibility acting on employeeengagement lies in two aspects: one is the corporate social responsibility to employees andemployee engagement is positively related, and the other is the corporate social responsibility toother stakeholders and employee engagement is positively related. Factors that affect employeeengagement are corporate social responsibility to (in descending order of influence): staff, product, charity, integrity and environmental protection.(2) The more social responsibilities acorporation is engageed in, the stronger sense of organizational identification the employee willhave. Factors that affect employee’s organizational identification are corporate socialresponsibility to (in descending order of influence): staff, product, environment, integrity andcharity.(3) Employee’s organizational identification has a mediation effect only to some extenton how the corporate social responsibility to employee, product and charity influences employeeengagement. However, its mediation effect on how the corporate social responsibility to integrityand environmental protection influences employee engagement is absolute.Through analysis of the mechanism that corporate social responsibility acts on employeeengagement, this research is helpful in guiding corporate activities in connection with its socialresponsibility on the one hand, and on the other hand improves the level of human resource management for corporation, which is of great significance for harmonious development ofemployees, corporations and society.
