With the high speed of economic development, most of the cities are on their way to urbanization, and industrialization. And it is because the land for construction purposes in cities are expanding rapidly, that large scale of land for agricultural use especially farmland are being occupied. The state our country are facing is more people but less land, which comparatively speaking means we are lack of land. And all this lead to the increasing contradiction between scarcity of land supply and the growth demand. As a result, we have to make rational use of every inch of land, which is a must during the process of managing and using land, and research of the performance evaluation on urban land use.This article is based on the actual situation of land use and social economy development in Taiyuan, mainly focus on the theory and practice Of the performance evaluation on urban land use. And we will discuss this in six chapters as follows.The first chapter which is also the introduction part,mainly focus on the significance, technical route and research trends both in and abroad of the performance evaluation on urban land use. Chapter two mainly lies on the theory researching, which includes the basic conception, principles and methods of the performance evaluation on urban land use. So that we can have a firm foundation for practice. The third chapter mainly tells us about the present situation of land use in Taiyuan, which includes the analysis of total scale, structure, and analysis of dynamic and regional differentiation. Chapter four is the key of this whole article. This part makes a performance evaluation on urban land use in Taiyuan. This evaluation comes from the evaluation index system established from prospective of economic, social and ecological benefits. Through the model of coordination function evaluation method and the objective assignment in the variation coefficient method to determine the weight, we can get the land use coordination degree in2001-2010of10districts in Taiyuan, then through analysis combined with the spatial-temporal evolution, driving factors and regional differentiation of land use in the process of urbanization of Taiyuan, we can draw a conclusion that the total performance evaluation on urban land use in Taiyuan and coordination degree are increasing during2001-2010. The plan for land use of Taiyuan (2006-2020) plays an important role in the increasing process, but these affections including both positive and negative factors;10counties (districts) the level of development is not balanced in Taiyuan; the development in Yingze district is almost balanced. Xiaodian district is comparatively balanced, while the situation in Xing hualing and Wan bolin districts are not so good. And Qingxu County and Yangqu County are not balanced.Gujiao City and Jingyuan District are totally not balanced. Chapter five mainly gives some suggestions on how to raise the performance evaluation on urban land use. Chapter six points out the research results and shortness of this article.
