The science and technology is the symbol of a country’s synthesis strength, whichalso represents a country’s development situation. Therefore, all the countries in theworld attach much more importance to study on domestic and other countries’ scienceand technology. This paper is a research on American science and technology. Thedevelopment of science and technology in American west from1930s to1960s is mainlystudied. The stage, from1930s to1960s, is a critical period for the development ofAmerican western science and technology. During this period, the field of science andtechnology has expanded in American west, fields such as aircraft manufacturing,aerospace science, atomic energy technology and electronic technology rose rapidly,meanwhile each of which has made remarkable achievements. From then on, Americanwest gradually got rid of the backward situation of science and technology and graduallydeveloped into a science and technology center of America. The rapid development ofAmerican western science and technology from1930s to1960s is the combined result ofmany historical factors including the federal government’s supporting, the impulse of war,the special geographical environment and the input of talents.This paper includes three parts which are introduction, main text and conclusion.The first part is the introduction. It defines the related concepts, and reviews the researchstatus at home and abroad, the innovation of this paper, the main structure, as well as thesignificance of topics.The second part is the main text consisting of three parts. The first part makes ahistorical review of the science and technology before1930s in United States. Itelaborates the development status of American science and technology, and givesprominence to the obvious backwardness of the science and technology in American westbefore1930s. The second part presents the main science and technology fields and theirachievements in American west from1930s to1960s. It introduces the developmentstatus and achievements of these fields like aircraft manufacturing, aerospace science,atomic energy technology and electronic technology during this period. The third partdescribes the main reasons and historical function of the development of science and technology in American west from1930s to1960s. It analyzes the main reasons anddiscusses its important historical role in American west and even the whole country.The third part is the conclusion, which analyzes the internal discipline of thedevelopment of science and technology in American west, and also elaborates itsimportant reference to the development of the science and technology as well as theWestern Development in our country.
