Construction Research On Xiamen’s Senior Tourism Functional System

The aging of the population is a common problem of the world today, and Chinahas the most elderly in the world, the number has exceeded to200million. It affectsChina’s economic development and social harmony a lot. We face an urgent task torespond to the aging of the population, to meet the growing needs of aging population.Elderly people have adequate leisure time, growing economy purchasing power, andwould like to go out and see more, to broaden their horizons, enrich their lives. Therising number of the elderly, growing tourism demands, will bring about a profoundimpact to tourism’s development. How to seize the market, respond to changes in themarket structure, the important issues should be considered in developing the tourismindustry. Facing the severe situation of increasing aging population, proceeding frommy own disciplinary background, concerning about problems of the elderly, it is bothan actual move of positively facing the aging of the population, but also amanifestation of contemporary social responsibility.With the view of "people-oriented", starting from the needs of the elderlytourists and tourism destination’s development, developing and improving the elderlytourism, trying efforts to establish a research framework of the elderly tourism, has acertain practical significance. Elderly tourists hold a large proportion in the tourismmarket, elderly tours have been carried out in different forms, although there is nolack of theories and case studies of the elderly tourism, but it is not yet fully onelderly tourist destination function evaluation research. Studying elderly tourismdestination functional system, and gradually forming a functional evaluation indexsystem, not only can provide an important reference value for other researches, butalso play a guiding role in tourist destination functional diversification.In this paper, combining qualitative and quantitative research, empirical researchand normative research literature, freedom enumeration method, depth interviews,expert advice, the survey method and mathematical statistics method are used tostudy elderly tourist destination,elderly tourist function structure, elderly touristdestination function evaluation index system, elderly tourist destinationcomprehensive evaluation model. And through empirical case study of evaluatingXiamen’s elderly tourist function, calculate Xiamen’s elderly tourist suitable index,and put forward proposals and measures of Xiamen’s Senior tourism functionconstruction.
