Since China’s reform and opening up, a large number of rural surplus labor hasentered into cities, and they have made great contribution to our country’s economicdevelopment and urban construction. As times passes, the migrant workers appear thereplacement among generations inside. The new generation of migrant workers hasgradually replaced the first generation of migrant workers, and has become the mainpart of industrial workers in China and reserves of the socialist modernizationconstruction. The migrant workers of the generation after80s and90s are eager to beable to integrate the city really, and to lead decent lives, but the city has not preparedto accept them fully. The new generation of migrant workers experiences employmentdifficulties along with the increased competitiveness in the labor market of ourcountry, and the awkward situation which they suffer between the urban and rural. Alarge number of the new generation of migrant workers changes their jobs frequentlyin order to get a better work environment, then they will not be able to engage inlong-term stable jobs, and they show a trend of decline on their job stability. In2010,the national federation of trade unions carries out research on the problem of the newgeneration of migrant workers. The result is that the job stability of the newgeneration of migrant workers is worse than the first generation, and the averagenumber of their replacement work is2.9times of the first generation of migrantworkers. In view of the unstable employed phenomenon of the new generation of migrantworkers, there is no clear distinction between the new generation migrant workersand the first generation of migrant workers in the most of the domestic research, andthe employment issues are not highlighted. What’s more, the research on job stabilityis originated in the western developed countries, and it remains to be further studiedunder the background of labor market segmentation in China. Therefore, it hasobvious practical significance for the exploration and research of the new generationmigrant workers in this paper. In addition, the domestic research on job stability issurrounded with the dual economic theory from Lewis, John Fei, Jorgenson, Todaroand so on. Although the theory explains the necessity of rural surplus labor transfer, itis weak for the explanation of the job stability of the migrant workers. The innovationof the paper is to analysis the factors and consequences of the low job stability of the migrant workers, according to the job search theories about labor market. We combine the theoretical research with the empirical research, to analyze thefactors which lead to the unstable jobs of the new generation of migrant workers. Forone thing, the theoretical part is based on the reference from foreign and domesticresearch on job stability, according to the job search theories about labor market, especially the DMP model from Diamond, Mortenson, and Pissarides. Then we startto analysis the factors and consequences of the low job stability of the new generationof migrant workers. For another thing, the empirical part is based on the statisticsfrom the questionnaire survey to new generation of migrant workers, and we findtheir main employment problem, which affect their job stability, after a descriptiveanalysis of statistical significance. On this basis, we build binary Logit model bySPSS software. With the above two methods, we finally get the factors affecting thejob stability of the new generation of migrant workers. It includes marital status, skillrequirements of job training, monthly wages, work-related information, etc. So, thelast part of the paper offers strategies to improve the job stability of the newgeneration of migrant workers. It includes that reduce the impact of labor marketsegmentation by promoting the reform of household registration system, reduce theeffect of imperfect labor market information by broadening the employment channelsselection, and reduce the effects of lack of vocational skills training by increasinghuman capital investment.
