Cultivated land is the foundation of human society to survive, multiply anddevelopment. With the development of urban industrialization, the contradictionbetween man and land is very prominent. The study on the intensive use of cultivatedland is meaningful to ensuring food security and promoting sustainable developmentof agriculture. Establish a resource-saving, environment-friendly society is a strategictask of China’s national economic and social development of long-term planning.Urban agglomeration as the carrier has a high research value. The paper tookChangzhutan―3+5‖as the study area, analyzed the status quo and built the evaluationindex system of cultivated intensive land use. Using principal component analysissystem clustering method and SPSS software to evaluate intensive land use of urbanagglomerations.Research results:(1)From the status of land utilization, total and per capitacultivated area both decreased, pressure of farmland protection increased;(2)TheChangzhutan―3+5‖cultivated land intensive utilization level, showing thathigh-northwest, central-eastern and southern areas low;(3)The eight cities of theurban agglomeration can be divided into four categories, Changde is demonstrationarea for intensive land use with highest score; Xiangtan, Yueyang, Yiyang can bedivided for the enhance regional with higher score; In Changsha, Zhuz hou andHengyang, the score is negative and intensive land use is low, especially thesustainability of arable land resources are poor, so can be divided for enhanceregional; Loudi is the key support area with score minimum;(4)According to theresults of the evaluation of intensive land use, combined with the actual situation ofthe urban agglomeration development, give the countermeasures and suggestions ofintensive land use.
