With the rapid development of Chinese economy and the increase of construction projects, there are broad markets and unprecedented development space for construction engineering company. However, the rapid development of construction industry brings not only opportunities but also challenges. With the continual increase of construction companies, enterprises must establish and improve human resource management system, especially the performance appraisal system, in order to attract more talents and make themselves dominating in the competition.This paper takes SJ construction engineering company as the research object, analyzing the existing problems in the company performance appraisal system through the way of data collection and field research. Then we apply modern human resources management theory and method to explore and design a performance appraisal system which accords with the need of company development and market economy. During the process of the performance appraisal design, we focus on the company strategy and disassemble the firm objectives and tasks to each department and individual. Based on the department responsibility and post responsibility, we design the department performance indicators and post performance indicators, then build the performance appraisal system of SJ construction engineering company.Through analysis, this paper correlates the employees’compensation with their performance, increasing the proportion of the performance salary to promote employees’working enthusiasm. The new performance appraisal system will contribute to the communication between leadership and personnel, which increases the employees’understanding of development requirements in their company and managers’knowing of the employees’needs. Moreover, the new system is helpful for senior managers to draw up a plan which fits the company and employees well. Therefore, the constant improvement of the performance appraisal system provides security for improving the enterprise’core competence and development.
