Appearing at the dawn of the century,“Design Management” has been developing quicklyin China with great momentum. In the last few years, the areas related with designmanagement developed rapidly, with its power of influence increased. How to make full useof global resources of designs has also become prominent consequently. Under suchcircumstances, it is inevitable that graphic designs will become managed. Therefore,traditional designs move to a whole new era of graphic designs management.This article focuses on the origins of design management, its development, and explorationabout its concepts, with a series of questions put forward. In this article is the statement of theauthor’s understanding and viewpoints about design management, that is, the disintegration ofthe concepts of design management for analysis and interpretation, and analysis of the objectsresearched in this area, which are the three aspects of designs management: its core, methods,and operation. Its core,including the concepts of this area, its features and functions, will bethe central topic of this article.There are five chapters in this article. The first chapter is the introduction of the backgroudof the research, research methods, and the framework of this article. The second chapter is theliterature reviews, as well as the author’s proposal. According to the earlist designmanagement, design is the object of management. Then the connotation and denotation ofthis area change graduately, and develop. In this chapter the core concepts of this area will betalked about. Chapter three is about the analysis of four features of design management: thescientificity, artistic quality, its philosophy, and techniques.The author’s proposal is basedon empirical analysis of cases, induction,and graphic demonstration. This chapter looks at allthe strongths and weakness of each features. Chapter four is about the study of the functionsof design manament. In this chapter, the managerial functions for business management,management of the projects of designs, and individuals are compared to responsibility ofiatric professionals, the responsibility of housekeeper and the responsibility of artbrokers..Chapter five is peroration.
