Evolution And Regional Defference Of Urban Function Structure In China

Urban function means the task undertaken and the role played by the city on the aspects ofthe political, economic, cultural, and so on. For a long time, this was an important issue ingeography filed. According to different classification methods, urban function can be divided intodifferent types. It can be divided into basic function and non-basic function by the economic base.It can be divided into general function and the special function by the effect of the urban function.It can be divided into dominant and non dominant function by its strength.Since the founding of new China, especially after the reform and opening up, the cities inChina have being developing rapidly, and in a period of rapid urbanization. However, the rapidurbanization has brought many problems to the city, which makes the urbandevelopment enter a transformation period. With the rapid development of urbanization and thetransformation of the mode of economic growth, urban function is experiencing a rapid andprofound change. The cities are widely distributed in China, with the significant regionaldifference of urban function structure. Therefore, in new period of rapid urbanization andtransformation of the urban development, it is necessary to accurately grasp the evolution lawand regional differentiation characteristics of urban function structure, which can help to establisha scientific and reasonable system of urban functions in our country and form the reasonabledivision of functions.In this paper, statistical data of persons employed in various units by sector in detail recordedby China City Statistical Yearbook was took as the basic date, and the19industrial sectors weremerged reasonably into9functional departments. Under the guidance of the urban basic economictheory, quantitative approaches, such as regression analysis, location quotient, Nelson statisticalanalysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and so on, were used to research the types andstructure characteristics of the cites at prefecture level and above. Methods of qualitative andquantitative were used to summarize the evolution law and regional differentiation of theurban function structure, in order to provide the reference for the optimization and transformationof our urban functional structure. The paper is divided into six parts, the main contents as follows:The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the research background, researches atHome and Abroad, research content, method and technical route. The second chapter is thetheoretical basis. This paper mainly states the theoretical basis and the corresponding concepts ofurban function. The third chapter is the evolution of the urban function structure in China. Thischapter analyzes the evolution of the urban function structure, basic employed persons and eachfunctional department, by selecting the data of persons employed in various units by sector indetail of the cites at prefecture level and above for the2003-2012period. The evolution law ofurban function is summarized and the evolution mechanism is analyzed in this chapter. The fourthchapter is the regional difference of urban function structure in China. Multivariate statisticalanalysis is used on the classification and characteristics of the urban function. According to theresearch of different scales on the regional differentiationof urban function structure, regional differentiation characteristics of urban function andits influence factors are summarized. The fifth chapter is the optimization and countermeasures ofurban function structure. Based on the quantitative research of urban function structure in the thirdand fourth chapters, optimization objective and countermeasures of urban function structure areput forward, on the base of healthy development of urban in China. The sixth chapter is theconclusion, which underlines the central theme of the whole paper.In this paper, qualitatively and quantitatively were combined to summarize the evolution lawsand regional differentiation characteristics of the urban function in China, based on theinterpretation of theory of urban function and industry development. The following is showed inthis research. The evolution of urban function is affected by policies, convergence, technology,industry transfer and so on. The development of urban function is related to urban scale, style ofurban function and other influence factors. The general tendency is manifested as increasing of itsscale and strength of urban function. Urban function structure is unbalanced distribution, under theinfluence of developing level, population scale, location condition, policy culture, and so on. Theurban function structure develops better in the eastern area than western. According to the researchresults, optimization objectives could be expected such as the urban function structure being morereasonable, labor division being more clearly, professional level being higher. Based onoptimization of urban function, countermeasures of urban healthy development were put forward in this paper. It is necessary to establish the comprehensive and overall planning regionalization ofurban function in China, and to locate the urban dominant function of each city. Urban industrystructure needs to be improved to optimize urban function. Reasonable urban function systemmust to be established by outstanding the advantage urban function. And resource-based citiesshould transform its development pattern, and promote plural development of urban function.
