The Evaluation Research On Port Performance Based On The Two-stage DEA Method

As an important part of regional economic system and the transportation network, ports are obtaining more and more attention along with the development of social economy. The development of domestic ports have got into a new stage, that is, becoming the indispensable part of domestic and international logistics network. Improving the efficiency of ports not only create port value and enhance the international competitiveness but also drive the economy of related industries and promote the coastal economy. However, the scale of many ports is huge, while the benefit is little, besides, domestic ports are facing the turbulent international trade market and the fierce competition, which will last for a long time. Therefore, it is significant for port enterprises to measure the port efficiency effectively and improve its the weakness.Firstly, this paper states the existing research about port performance, performance evaluation methods as well as the DEA model, determining that this article will use the two-stage DEA model to simulate the port performance from the operation level and the market level; Then, this paper summarizes the status quo of the port industry in our country and points out that at present, the competitiveness of domestic ports is generally low though the large scale; Secondly, this paper divides the evaluation index system of port enterprises, describes the existing index system, and then chose some typical index as input, output and performance indicators of the two-stage DEA model according to the understanding of port performance; Next, this paper constructs the two-stage DEA model. After choosing the top18ports as sample based on the port throughput, we evaluated the relative efficiency of the ports and got the ranking in the first stage of DEA. In the second stage, this paper is dedicated to find the internal factors of port and their influences, we use the influence factors of operation index and market index as independent variables and use the efficiency as dependent variable, through Tobit model, kind of data regression model, find out the influential factors and analyzes how these factors affect the performance; In addition, this article selected some port enterprise from the18samples to measure their financial performance; Finally, to summarize the full text, we make some suggestions for port enterprises, also point out the deficiencies of this paper and the direction of further research.
